A sho(cking)rt weekend

Firstly, Tharani and Comfy asked me if Mantam enjoyed the firestation visit. This was the how the conversation between us went in the evening that day:

Me: Mantam, aaj tum log kidhar gaya tha?
Tam: Hum Faayal Tay-than gaya tha Mamma (Faayal Tay-than – Fire station)
Me: Tum log happy ho gaya sab teachers aur friends ko dekhe?
Man: Mamma, P aunty MannuTammu dekhke happy ho gaya (Me rolls eyes at P aunty being happy to see them).
Me: Tum log fire station mein kya dekha?
Man: Faayal Man dekha! (She is fultoo excited as she is talking about it. Now raises her hand, shoots 4 fingers by unfolding her fist) Four Faayal man tha. Two red dress pehna tha. Two blue dress pehna tha. And Black shoe Pehna tha. Faayal man lorry (??!!) ke andar ghuus gaya. Phir belt nikala (she meant fire hose), Ding dong bell kiya aur belt se paani aa gaya. Aur faayal man ka shoe bheeja (wet) ho gaya (covers her mouth with palms and giggles as if that was the funniest thing ever)
Me: Tammu, tune kya dekha?
Tam: Wahi to dekha Mamma. (She is the queen of shortcuts!!!)

We had planned of going to watch ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ on Saturday but felt like lazing around coz I had to go to work on Sunday. Abbas was asking for Luchi last week. So I had soaked some dried green peas on Friday night. Saturday morning, when I set to make Ghugni, I realized that I had run out of tomatoes. I heard the veggie cart waala screaming ‘Tarkari lelo’ (Always reminds me of Nana Patekar in Welcome. LOL) Abbas went down to get tomatoes. Mantam n I were peering down from Balcony. I screamed ‘Baba, Dhaniya patta bhi lelo.’ And Tammu yelled ‘Baba, Kari patta bhi lelo’. Why should Mannu be left behind? ‘Baba, pudina patta lelo’ (I call Abbas – Baba. It means father in Bengali but what the heck? I find it cute)

After a heavy breakfast, I sat to paint an earthen wind-chime that I had picked up from roadside for 100 bucks and the pot I decorated last week. Cooked a lunch of rice, dal, alu gobi, baingan bharta. Post lunch we all slept like Kumbakarnas and woke up at 6 PM. Abbas made tea… Yayay to that. I just love it when he makes tea on a lazy weekend evening. While I pondered over what to cook for dinner, Abbas suggests Dimer Jhol (egg curry). I entered kitchen and got the baking itch. Made ‘Self Saucing Chocolate Pudding‘ which I was supposed to post on 7th of this month. It was so easy to make and kids went bananas over them.

Post dinner, Abbas told me to go to bed as I had to go to work the next day and would have to wake up at 5:45 AM. I sat to post the Pudding recipe on my food blog. I simply wanted to post it at that very moment. We had a tiff and we slept with our backs facing each other. Next morning, I just stepped out of the house without telling Abbas. Poor guy, he only called me once he woke up. And we forgot about the previous night. I worked from 7AM to 5 PM and Abbas, kids and Bulu came to pick me up in the evening. Abbas had shampoo-ed their hair *Me astonished*. We headed to Big Bazaar to pick some veggies and a couple of groceries. When I combed their hair, I exclaimed “Uh oh, but there are no clips or rubber bands na?”. Abbas brought out some clips from his pocket as he drove. *Jaws dropped*

We came back home, I noticed that our apartment building was getting painted. The walls outside our front door were painted and the cloth thoran hung in front of our door was missing. I inquired Abbas and he said ‘I removed before they started painting’. (Since when did he become so responsible???) I saw that clothes were washed and hung in balcony *Shocked to death* We freshened up and I decided to make Pizza. Abbas said ‘Teach me how to iron the clothes no?’ *Managed not to faint* He actually sat and ironed half of the load and the rest I completed after making Pizza. We crashed into bed post dinner.

ETA:
1. Changed the title as suggested by SnS
2. Translation of the conversation for Tharani and SnS:
Me: Mantam, where did you both go today?
Tam: We went to the Faayal Tay-than Mamma (Faayal Tay-than – Fire station)
Me: Were you happy to see your teachers and friends there?
Man: Mamma, P aunty was happy to see MannuTammu (Me rolls eyes at P aunty being happy to see them).
Me: What did you all see in the fire station?
Man: We saw Faayal Man! (She is fultoo excited as she is talking about it. Now raises her hand, shoots 4 fingers by unfolding her fist) There were Four Faayal man. Two had worn red dress. Two had worn blue dress. And they wore Black shoe. Faayal man got inside lorry (??!!). Then removed a belt (she meant fire hose), he did Ding dong bell and water came out from belt. And faayal man’s shoe got wet (covers her mouth with palms and giggles as if that was the funniest thing ever)
Me: Tammu, What did you see?
Tam: That is what I saw Mamma. (She is the queen of shortcuts!!!)

    1. Will pass him the message (I did the last time too)

Come and occupy my adjacent flat. I’ll feed you all that you want for a lifetime. Don’t ask me to marry you coz only RD can put up with RM and Abbas can tolerate Seema on a day to day basis.

  2. Even though I am a Hindi-illiterate, I loved the first conversation! 😀 And Tam’s shortcut – ?! 😀

Actually, you should name this ‘surprise(or is it shock) filled weekend’ what with Abbas giving you way too many of them! I can totally understand your reaction on every situation. Totally! Way to go, Abbas! 😀

  5. Girl I am blown over by you. You work, you cook, you bake, you paint, you take care of the house..and all of this on top of taking care of two amazing girls.
I seriously need to get the house next to yours.

Abbas is no less. Look at all the things he did. And the girls are of course amazing. 🙂

    1. Thanks thanks thanks. I’m simply Jack of All Trades and Master of None. Always welcome to live next door.

Abbas merely shocked me this weekend re. Otherwise, you will always see me nagging about how careless he is and shooting free gyan to be more responsible.
