Dancing – a new found passion!

Mantam’s annual day is round the corner and the school faculty is preparing all kids to perform. The preparations began as early as first week of January. And we began noticing Mantam tapping feet and swaying hands in unison. Within a month, they learnt so many different steps and are found dancing all the time all over the house. Be it while taking bath, brushing teeth or having food! Tammu is found swinging her hip to one end and rubbing it with her palm (like Malaika in Munni) whenever I am angry with her only to have me burst out laughing. Another obsession that they have developed courtesy dancing is for skirts. They insist on wearing skirts daily. ‘Good morning’s have been replaced by ‘Are we wearing skirts to school today?’. Then they have a competition as to whose skirt flies higher and wider than the other.

Tammu’s body is very flexible and she can shake and twist her body effortlessly. But she seems to forget all the steps. Mannu’s body is stiff and at times she stands steady as a pillar and her movements seem programmed like a robot. She has perfect memory of which step goes with which music. Tammu always looks up to Mannu to remember which step she is supposed to perform. They make a good pair 🙂

Evidently enough, they have cultivated an undeterred liking towards dancing. Abbas and I decided to get them admitted to a dance class. There is one very close to their day care. But we discovered that the classes are only on Mondays and Fridays from 6 to 7 PM. Had it been Monday to Friday, I could’ve changed my shift timings from 10 to 7 or had it been from 5 to 6, I could have asked their day care fellas to drop them at 5 so that I could pick them from there at 6 as usual. Well, that was not to be.

As of now, we have decided that I will pick them up from day care as usual at 6 PM. On Mondays and Fridays, I would drop them at the dance class and wait for one whole hour. I guess I will use the 2 hours a week to pursue reading. Or else, I could perhaps do some shopping as there are all genre of stores nearby. And yes, I love shopping alone!!! Mondays would be a bit difficult after coming back coz my domestic help wouldn’t come that late for work. I will have to do all the chores myself. Lets see how we sail through this…

  1. LOL!
This sounds so similar to the situation in my home. Cheebu’s daycare’s annual function is on 18th Feb and I find her dancing all the time all over the house. Be it while taking bath, brushing teeth or having food… even during potty 🙂

    1. I dunno if they are in a frenzy due to the annual day preparations. I am gonna keep a check on whether they like it or not in future. I wanna let them try their hand at everything that we have access to and can afford. Perhaps, it would help us discover what each one’s actual liking is.

Thanks SnS. Will certainly update here how the arrangements are working 🙂

Actually they have Bharatanatyam and Western Dance. But they said Mantam are too young for Bharatanatyam. So as of now, Western Dance it is!
