On 26th Dec, we went to a beach in the morning and came back home by around 2 PM. On the way back home Ro called and said that there was a half price sale going on in Target. I told Abbas that I would go but everyone of us was tired. I decided that I would go alone. After taking a shower, we had our lunch. I was getting ready and Mannu said that she will join me too. She is an enthu cutlet and always full of energy. I told Tammu – “Tammu, you stay at home with Baba and take rest. Mannu and I will go for shopping. Anyway, if we take you along, you will start saying pee and poo as soon as we step into the mall” She was indifferent to my talks as she was already lying on the couch.
Man and I went to Target. We had just been in the store for a couple of mins and I got an urgent call from nature.
Me: “Oh Mannu, I need to go to the toilet. It’s urgent. But I wish I could control it”
Mannu (spots a chair): “Mumma, you sit down here and see if it goes back in”
Me: “Oh no! Remember how I told Tammu that she feels the urge to pee and poo in the mall all the time? I feel so bad for telling her that now.”
Mannu (in an elderly tone): “That’s ok Mumma. This is only your first time. Taa does it all the time”
We continued to shop and I checked dresses for myself. Whatever I was liking didin’t have my size. I was looking for size 14 and Mannu asked: “Mumma, when are you going to turn 14?”
There was an old lady surfing the dresses in the same section ad she burst out laughing. She told Mannu “Your mum can also wish to be 14 now”
I finally found a couple of dresses and headed towards the changing room. As we neared the changing room, we saw a man standing right outside, perhaps waiting for some lady who had gone inside. As we approached him, I saw another section with some clothes and I told Mannu that we will check that out before entering the changing room. Just as we passed this guy, Mannu said “Oh Mumma. You already have so many clothes. Why are you looking for more?” I could see him sniggering. I told Mannu “Kyun mera kachra kar rahi hai Mannu?” and she replies “What is meant by Kachra?” in her aussie accent!
I had mentioned in my one of the posts how Abbas goofs up names of electronic gadgets, remember? Mannu always laughs when he does that.
One day Mannu tells me “Mumma, Baba learnt a new thing today” I thought he must have now learnt to point out the right names. I questioned her inquisitively what her Baba had learnt. She said “Mumma, he has learnt to call the washing machine as dustbin now. He told us to dump all our soiled clothes in the dustbin”
Mannu loves Abbas and Tammu loves me blindly. Mannu even calls me and Tammu as Baba when she is very excited. Yesterday we were supposed to meet our friends in the evening. We had told them that we would leave home at around 4. But we were going to be a little late. So Abbas told me to send them a message ahead of time. I told him to send it himself. Tammu jumped to take my side “Yes, Baba has to send the message.” Mannu jumps in “Why does Baba have to send? Any of them can send it” It’s funny that when we have silly arguments Mantam immediately take sides and start defending their fav parent 😀
Tammu enters the kitchen and scans through the groceries that Abbas bought. She spots a packet of Spaghetti.
Tammu (comes to me, hugs me tightly): “Thank you Mumma! I love you so much”.
Me(amused): “Why are you thanking me Tammu?”
Tammu: “Because you brought spaghetti for me Mumma”
Me: “Oh that! But I didn’t bring it. It was Baba who brought it”
Tammu (again hugs me tightly): “But you told him to bring na? I love you so much”
Me (now laughing): “But Tammu, I didn’t tell Baba. He brought it on his own”
Tammu (Pauses to think for a couple of seconds and hugs me tightly again nevertheless) : “That’s okay Mumma. You are the one who is going to cook it for me. I love you so much”
Haha, talk about unconditional love!
