Mantam’s Annual Day

I had started this blog to save the anecdotes of my experiences of motherhood and Mantam’s stories but I have turned it into my own space. I posted about Pinkathon but missed posting Mantam’s annual day. One of the readers, Deepika, was even sweet enough to drop a comment to post the pics. So without further ado, here is an account of the day from my eyes:

As per the school diary, the teacher had asked the kids to be dressed up and dropped at 1PM. The function was to begin at 2 PM. On Friday, Mannu came home and told that her ma’am has said that it was sufficient if reached by 2 PM. On Saturday, we had an early lunch and started decking up the kids. I had kept all the accessories handy. But dunno how I missed the maang teekas (MT). Then at the last minute I started hunting for the MT everywhere, emptied all the dabbas where I keep the junk jewelleries but the MTs were nowhere to be found. I finally gave up and thought it wouldn’t be a big deal if they went without one. Then suddenly an idea struck my mind. There was a set of anklets which I put horizontally on each head. And for the hanging part, I stuck a big pendant from a necklace on Mannu’s head and an earring on Tammu’s head. Fultoo jugaad, let me know how it looks 😛

In all the hullabaloo of finding MTs, we reached the school at 10 mins late. I was endlessly fretting at being late, but after reaching there we realized we had reached early. 😀 Many kids were yet to arrive and those who had arrived were dressing the kids there itself. I sat with Mantam in their class while Abbas went to find parking space for Bulu. Luckily Mannu had told me that teacher had asked to come by 2 PM. There were parents who reached at 1 as per the diary notes as their kids did not inform. They could not even feed their kids lunch in the rush. So, the program started at around 2 but the speeches, prize distribution, some books inauguration, felicitation of teachers, aayas, transport staff etc went on and on and on. Finally the cultural program started at 5:30 PM. We were so furious by then. It was ridiculous to have the kids report so early totally dressed only to make them wait for those many long hours. And to add to the misery, Mantam’s perfomance was at Number 27 🙄 Their turn came at around 7 PM.

As if the wait was not enough, I had a mini heart attack at the touch up the teachers had done on the kids after the parents left them in their custody. It was horrible to say the least. I wish I had known, I would have asked the teachers to not apply any makeup on my kids. But alas, though the performance was great, I just couldn’t stop nagging at the makeup done. Sheeshhh! Just see for yourself. Have clicked pics before leaving home and after coming back home. You will see the difference. Mantam, when you grow up and read this post, I want you to know that you were happy that the teacher applied so much of makeup on you while your Mamma never allows it. When you cringe looking at the lipstick smeared on your cheeks, lips and eyelids generously, I want you to know that I wished to stop the performance and somehow wipe it all but you were ecstatic during the show 🙂

    1. We had sent some snacks. But we didn’t know that they would have to wait for so long. Teachers also gave a pack of fruiti and some other snacks I believe.

    1. They had asked parents to not shoot videos as it would distract the kids and also create chaos. They have given us a CD though of he entire program.

      Thanks AM

Thanks for the pics 🙂 Muahhh to the gals!
And as for the makeup… I have been through it.. and when my mom asked my teachers the reason, they said it would stay for long and will be seen from people sitting at the end of the hall.. if that gives you any respite… obviously the coming home and washing face sessions were tedious, but I did love looking at myself all made-up 🙂 hehehe.. You don’t get to do make up anyways when in school… though now I have all the liberty too 🙂

    1. Yes, we too asked the teachers later on and that is what they said too. And like you said, Mantam were happy with all the make up 🙂
