Mantamisms in 2013 – Part 1

We were planning to go out for Durga Puja pandal hopping with our neighbours S and A. S came to our home to seek help in wearing saree. I gave my pair of earrings to go with the saree. On seeing this, Tammu tells S sternly: ‘You should not use other’s things’

One evening at home, I lose my cool and yell at Tammu for something very trifle. She goes to her bed and starts crying. I feel terrible for having yelled at her. I go to her, cuddle her and apologize for reacting the way I did. Her face breaks into a wide grin, she pats on my head lovingly and says “It’s okay Mamma”. I ask her innocently “Didn’t you get angry on me?” She coolly replies “Mamma, I get angry only when you prepare Kachha Puchha* food”

Talk about kids and their priorities!

*Kachha Puchha is a term used for something that is not good)

I call my Amma on her birthday and let Mantam wish her ‘Happy birthday Ammamma’. By the time I took the phone over, she was sobbing. I too reciprocated. Looking at me Mantam got confused as to what was happening. And they too began bawling.

After some time:

Tammu: Why did you cry Mamma?

Me: Coz I miss my Mamma and Baba. They are angry with me.

Mannu: Why are they angry with you?

Me: Coz I married your Baba

Tammu: You should’ve first married them  before marrying Baba na??

Me: You can’t marry your parents beta. For ex, you both can’t marry me or Baba.

Mannu: Then whom should we marry?

Me: It’s up to you.

Tammu: But I don’t want to marry Mamma.

Me: That’s fine. It’s also up to you.

Mannu: But I want to marry Mamma.

Me: That’s also fine.

Mannu: Should I marry a girl or a boy?

Me: That’s again up to you.

Mannu: Ok fine. Then I will first marry a girl, then a boy , then a girl, then a boy… Like that. Ok Ma?

Me: If you can manage to do that, I have no probs!!!

—————————

I tie their hair in a new style.

An amazed Mannu asks me: What is this Mamma?

Me: That’s a new style!

Mannu: Of, you mean Gangnam style eh?

Abbas takes Mantam to the cupboard where their dresses are kept to choose what they are gonna wear. He tells them that they should carefully pull the dresses and not make a mess as their mom spends a lot of effort in ironing the clothes, how her back aches in doing so.

Tammu: Then why don’t you help Mamma in ironing the clothes?

Abbas: But I don’t know how to iron clothes.

Tammu: Then you can learn na?

I started howling in the background like a hyena 😀

One of Mannu’s fav ways to pass time is to pretend to be speaking on her dummy mobile phone.

She pretends to be busy with something and holds phone with the help of her shoulder. Conversation goes like this:

Hello… You busy? Okay I’ll call later

Dials again

Hello…

Pauses… Mmmm.. Ahhaaa…Hmm… Giggles…Ha?… Ohho…. Okay… What is your name???

And I faint!!!

  4. Hey Seema, good to have you back here. Missed Mantamisms a lot and this seems to be a fair quota for compensation.

    1. Yeah, it felt good though she didn’t reply. I could sense that she could recognize her grand-daughters’ voice. Thanks Garima. Will pass them on 🙂
