Introspection: 2013 in a nutshell

2013 has been a game changer for us. It was a topsy-turvy bumpy ride for us as we underwent innumerous changes. To begin with, we had been planning to move to a different house for almost 3 years but it never worked out. This year made us finally move out. From my work front, I got promoted to ‘Technical Lead’ position. I was elated beyond words as I was being promoted within 18 months of my joining this organization. Mantam also went through significant changes in terms of school, friends, environment and lifestyle (what with staying at home after school as against the day care earlier) Our lives had totally changed in all respects.

Mantam began socializing and attending birthday parties of their friends. Most of these were hosted within the confines of the apartment, so they would go on their own. I clearly remember the first time they went on their own, I was totally restless. I paced hither and thither unable to wait till they reached home. I was worried and the eerie silence in the house came to haunt me. But when they merrily came back clutching their return gifts, I heaved a sigh of relief. From the next time on, I had calmed down and would also chill at home and try to enjoy the silence (before the storm). Festivals are celebrated, national holidays are observed with flag hoisting in the apartment, this was a good experience for kids and the adults alike. Prior to this, we used to celebrate some festivals within the confines of our home. But here the community did it together, more the joy and more the fun.

With the promotion at work came hordes of responsibilities. While I was only answerable for my own deeds earlier, now I was answerable for all the mistakes that my juniors would commit. A lot of expectations from me put my mind under grave stress. At the same time, Abbas was due to get his promotions and a substantial hike as assured by his reporting manager during appraisal process. But when he got the papers in hand, he felt as if the sky had fallen on his head. It was shattering after having slogged like a dog for 2 years, being lauded by customers, team members and superiors. It was simply not acceptable to him. He was crushed beyond repair. His gloominess was contagious and all of us were affected. It was a very frustrating phase for us. During that period, we found a ray of hope and we clutched onto it tightly so as to not let go of it….

It was a major decision that we took and have been working towards it ever since. I do not want to disclose anything on the blog till everything is finalized. Please keep us in your prayers, dear readers. Your good wishes are much needed!
