Mish Mash of Mantamism

As I was not in the habit of blogging, I missed documenting many of the conversations. I raked my brains to dig out some of them. Writing this post quickly before I forget them:

Tammu explains about her computer class at school.

Tammu: Mumma Baba, do you know what happened at school today?

Abbas & I: What?

Tammu: We had computer class and we had to show the class about any festival from our culture. I wanted to search for Diwali. And then you know what happened? I actually typed Dilwale and the picture of Shahrukh khan came on the screen. I was so shy *giggles and blushes*

*A warning to us to not show them too many bollywood movies 😛 *

Abbas generally drives to work but on one particular day he had to go to a different location which was better accessible via public transport. While he was ready to leave, he kept murmuring to himself that he was gonna get late and miss the train.

Tammu: Baba, be positive. You will not miss the train.

Abbas: But I need to walk from here to the station. I can’t walk super fast.

Tammu (with a straight face): Baba, just trust yourself. You can do it.

*Overdose of motivational talk to kids ultimately comes right back to you like a boomerang*

My employer arranged a Bowling party for us after work. I generally skip the after work gatherings. But since most of my colleagues were planning to go to this, I too was in a dilemma. Although I wanted to go, I was in two minds about the chores at home. Abbas told me to go ahead without worrying and that he would manage. But I wasn’t convinced.

Conversation with Mantam on the way to station in the morning:

Me: Mantam, Mumma has this bowling party at office. I’m not sure if I should go or not. I feel like going but I’m worried also about things at home.

Tammu: You should go Mumma!

Mannu: Yes Mumma, you have to go. Go and have fun there. You should not always think about family and home. You must enjoy with your friends also.

I was really touched and I did go. My kids were all ears to know how it went once I returned. I was really happy that they valued my personal space and understood that I have my own social circle.

After a few days, my fellow female colleagues at worked hatched a girls’ night out plan. We were all excited and as usual Abbas had no qualms about letting me go for a sleepover at my friend’s place 😀 I took for granted that Mantam would also happily see me off.

Me (In a casual tone): Mantam, I’m going to a friend’s house for a sleepover on so and so date.

Tammu (in an indifferent tone): OK

Mannu: Mumma, what’s going on these days? Are you kind of exploring the world or something?

*She used the exam same words. Who needs an mother-in-law when your daughter can taunt you even better if not less?*
