Hands full

I neglected this space for quite some time now. Had my hands full with lots of things to do both at work and home. Also, was demotivated due to absence of few fellow bloggers 😦 When I received e-mails from a couple of readers inquiring my whereabouts, I was touched. It really feels great to know that there are people whom you don’t know personally, have never met but they think of you and care for you… I couldn’t stay away longer than this 😀 Since I’m not sure of what to write in this post, I’m gonna randomly write in pointers what kept me occupied these days!

– Ma is here and she is getting bored alone at home during weekdays. I ordered 2 Bengali books for her from Flipkart but she is reading them at her own sweet pace and getting bored again. She asked me to buy an ‘Anchor Stitch Kit’ for her. I did not want buy another one as she has already finished 4 of them, 2 are at BIL’s and 2 here which are framed and adorning our home walls. I did not want any more of them on the walls. I came up with an idea, got 3 pillow covers stitched out of plain off-white cloth, drew patterns of birds and butterflies on them. She is now stitching away to glory 🙂 And I can’t wait to change the pillow covers ASAP.

– Have been reading rigorously much to Abbas’ annoyance and my amusement. He missed the bugging calls I would make on days that he would be late as I would be celebrating the extra time on hand to turn a few more pages and he would be shocked to see me sulk on days he arrived sooner than his normal time 😀 I read ‘The Palace of Illusions’, ‘Not Without my Daughter’, ‘The Reluctant Detective’. Had begun reading ‘The Mistress of Spices’ when another book arrived from Blog Adda where I registered for their ‘Book Reviews’ program. (Review to come up soon)

– Painted a used pet bottle using glass painting colours, but dunno what to do with it now. Last resort is to make it a vase

– With my green thumb itching to do some more for the small balcony garden that we had, enhanced it a bit further by including few more plants, 2 hanging pots on either side of the wind chime. Money plant is growing at a fast pace, curry leaves plant is saving me from buying the leaves, another small plant (dunno its name) had almost dried out and I was on the verge to shed tears when I planted it properly by changing the soil and adding a dash of compost and voila, in a few days, the plant had a re-birth with new leaves and yesterday I saw three buds on it. Ma planted chilli seeds and for a long time there was no sign of any change in the planter. Some research on growing chillies at home told me that it needs sunlight in exuberance which led to moving it on the balcony sill. Friday morning we saw chilli sprouts and leaves from there. I have now sown some coriander seeds, lets see if it works out.

– Scribby had brought some gifts for Mantam as we had planned for a Bloggers’ meet during her stay in Bangalore. But due to unavoidable circumstances, none of us could meet her. RS collected the gifts from her friend’s place and passed it on to one of my friends. I collected it last weekend and Mantam were super excited to see their gifts. They have been stuck to the books, completed many of the activities. Spoke to Scribby to let her know that we finally got the gifts she had so lovingly brought. Loved speaking to her, didn’t feel even for a moment that I was speaking to her for the first time. And to RM, I got Chirpy’s name right 🙂 Hi-five to R and sticking tongue out to you 😀

Apart from these, have been cooking, eating, cleaning, shopping as usual. Will post pictures of everything I talked about here in the next post. Hope to post regularly now 🙂

  1. Loved the idea of getting mum to embroider pillow covers….as far quick stictch kits I totally agree with your point for I too used to do them in plenty when I was in school leading to too many of them 😦
You are one energetic creative soul…I am surprised at the way to manage time so well for crafts, cooking, reading gardening and more along with full time work 😀 😀
Looking forward to pics and regular posts 😀

    1. Stitch kits are easy and fun to do, but like you said when plenty are done at a stretch, you end up clueless as to what to do with them.

I do everything in installments re depending on convenience. One craft that would hardly take an hour or two to finish might take a week for me as I might be able to devote 5-10 minutes a day. But I like to keep at it that way as I have no other choice anyway. I love juggling between many things 😀

      Thanks Era 🙂

  2. Do you mind passing on some of that energy to me? I would rather just laze around than do anything creative over the weekends. 😦 Mind says do, body says enjoy and laze…

    Lets have the pictures.

and hey! I read the blurb at the back of the book for ‘Not without my daughter’ and found it too heavy reading – thought i have read both of khaled hosseni’s books. Ordered and got Jaya from Flipkart – going to start that today 😀

    1. My mind always rules re and body ends up being stressed out all the time. 😦

      Will post ASAP.

Even I thought after reading the blurb initially that the plot and climax is already known, but since I read Scribby’s review of the book I wanted to read it. I must say, it was worth it. Not for a moment did the book lose pace and was an absolute page turner.

Anyways, lemme know how Jaya’s version of Mahabharata is. It’s on my TBR list since S7S’s recommendation.

  3. Hi Seema,
I was wondering why you have not written for some time!!!!

I have read the palace of illusions and Not without my daughter. Loved the first one. Felt sad (though it’s a happy ending) after reading the second. Have you read a thousand splendid su(o)ns. That’s nice book too. How is the reluctant detective???

    1. Awww! That feels great to know you thought about me 😀

Yes, I have read both Khaled Hosseini’s books. Reluctant detective is hilarious and a good read. I could relate to the protagonist very easily. But I expected suspense unfolding at the climax and a strong story which was a bit of a let down.

  4. I felt like everyone is missing in the blog world.. your post saved me Seema.. There were days when I was reading your/RS marriage stories in parallel, RM & SnS posting every day, SS peeping out every now and then.. I am missing those days very badly.. 😦

    1. Yes Ani, me too. I just didn’t feel like blogging due to RM and S&S’s absence. Anyway, RM is back now 😀

I am not a pro in gardening re. I have recently developed an interest and in the process of learning. But I guess I have been lucky 😀 Only thing I would say is that money plant requires support. Initially, you might want to dig in the pot a stick for support, later you can tie strings to the tick and tie them to let the creeper get support all the way. I water only once a day, and keep loosening the soil once in a while.

Will post the pics soon 🙂

  5. Your Ma is a sweetheart 🙂 Having her around is a blessing 🙂 You get hand made pillow covers and all the spare time to read (I guess she must be keeping Mantam entertained) 🙂 I get no time in my daily life to read 😦 … I don’t even have commuting time to work where I can read 😦 Sigh!
Your balcony garden sounds lovely. Do post pictures. We tried to put a few plants in our balcony some years back. But everytime the notorious monkeys here destroyed them :(. Have given up now.
Good to have you back 😀

    1. Actually it’s the other way round, Mantam keep her entertained. 😀

Yes, with her around I’m able to squeeze in more time to read but I had begun before she came re. You know LS, even I have no commute time and I used to also not read thinking that I don’t have time to read. But I started off with a good book, and I completed it within 2 weeks (before Ma came). Nothing is impossible. Why don’t you pick one good book and you will see that you will be able to find time, however short it might be. I even read one or two pages during my 15 minute commute after tying Mantam’s hair with two ponies each:-D

Oh, Monkeys eh? If it’s your own house, you might want to cover the open space with a grill or mesh. Just a thought…

Thanks LS. Means a lot 🙂

Hey do you add some thing especial to the pots …my plants dont grow well and mid way they get all dried up.You have red soil or black soil for your plants?

    1. Will post photus of evrything 🙂

Nothing special. Recently I bought a packet of compost but even before that, my plants were growing just fine re. If the leaves dry up, it’s fine. They will dry up and fall to make for for new ones. Regarding soil, I got extra soil from the nursery from where we bought the plants.
